Self-Drive Day Trips from Aus Camping

Self-drive excursions can be undertaken from Klein-Aus Vista to the deserted diamond settlement, Kolmanskop. This ghost town is a favourite attraction for both beginner and advanced photographers and the history of the town, as told by the guides, is fascinating.

On the way back, you can visit the Garum water hole where the Wild Horses of the Namib and several other animals of the desert plains can be found. The ancestors of these horses were imported at the beginning of the 1900’s and their descendants have roamed this harsh habitat ever since.

View the land art in honour of the Wild Horses of the Namib – the century-old population of horses whose future hangs in the balance. This massive galloping horse has been set in stone on the desert plains of Klein-Aus Vista Farm and can be seen from the viewpoint on the Vista Trail or Schutztruppe Trail.
